Giggles at Kids Wish Network

We had a really fun day with the children of Kids Wish Network’s employees on “Bring Your Kids to Work” day. Not only did they enjoy each other’s company but they had 2 extra playmates. Lily is a long-haired, cuddly Chihuahua and Tootsie is a lovable, lively Pug. That day at Kids Wish Network was filled with activity and giggles.
Once again, I’d like to extend an enormous thank you to our sponsors for the Holiday of Hope Gift Bank and Hero of the Month programs. Wal-Mart, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Sam’s Club continue to sponsor our programs across the country. Kids Wish Network, member hospitals, and, the children sincerely appreciate their support and generosity.

Evan’s Wish

Holiday of Hope Child Toys ‘Play’ a Big Role in Bringing Smiles to Kids

Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC recently held a very special party for the kids at their hospital. The party was part of our exciting Holiday of Hope Gift Bank program. We were thrilled to ship over $65,000 worth of brand new toys to Levine to be given to the pediatric patients there when they come in for medical treatment.
Almost all of our Gift Bank participating hospitals hold these amazing celebrations for the kids after receiving their toys, and these events include not only gift giving, but special guests, games and treats!
What a great way for these kids to break up their day in the hospital with a special party in their honor. And of course there’s nothing wrong with bringing home a brand new toy either!

Vanessa’s Wishing Well

As a Wish Coordinator, I wanted to say hi to all the kids I granted a wish for, and to all the kids whose wishes are soon to come. I hope you are doing well and looking forward to a fabulous summer. Surprise from Mr. Stamos!

Joseph was definitely surprised when he received a phone call from John Stamos while visiting sunny Disney World. Joseph is currently on his wish trip in Florida and when I mentioned tha
t his favorite actor is John Stamos, one of our restaurant sponsors went out of their way to contact the ER actor. At first we thought he would be getting an autographed photo because they knew Joseph idolizes Mr. Stamos. However, the actor took it upon himself to make a personal phone call for a special child, making his wish trip even more memorable!

Our Kids Helping Kids

On Thursday April 24, 2008, Kids Wish Network participated in National Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day! We were able to bring our kids to work with us and show them all the fun stuff we do here. It was a very busy day for them to say the least! They went for a tour of our warehouse, made cards to send to our wish kids and even had the opportunity to dress the stuffed animals in clothes for our gift boxes. Of course, they had some play time too, like playing with the balloons, and coloring, as children do get bored easily!
It ended up being a great day for our children. Today they return to school to tell all their peers about their experiences at Kids Wish Network. It was truly a great time for all of us and I look forward to it in the future.

Madeline’s Corner

Just thought I’d introduce myself and tell you a little about the wish department. I am the manager of the department and it is my job to oversee the wish coordinators and the Hero of the Month Team. We have recently just taken over the Gift Bank program and it has been an eye-opening experience to say the least!
The wish coordinators grant wishes to kids facing life threatening illnesses. They plan every aspect of the wish whether it involves making travel arrangements, doing a bedroom make-over, arranging a celebrity meeting or even installing a swimming pool! They work hard on every detail and try to make each wish special.
The Her of the Month program is a program that we have started in hospitals all over the country. Each hospital nominates their “Hero of the Month” each month and each one of those kids receives a gift card to spend on anything they like. These are kids who do not have life threatening illnesses, but have faced some extraordinary circumstances.
The newest program to our department is the “Holiday of Hope Gift Bank” program. Major toy manufactureres send us toys that we distribute to hospitals and other facilities that cater to children in need all over the country. The facilities give the toys to kids who may be getting medical treatment or may be frightened and need a little distraction to help them cope with some very difficult situations.
It is a very rewarding job and one that I am very proud of. I am fortunate to work with a team of truly special people who care so much. If you have benefitted from one of these programs, we’d love to hear from you!
